We have two Domino servers (8.5.3FP4) in separate Domino domains. The first server is the Traveler server (8.5.3.200 Build 201304101321), and the second server hosts all of the users' mail databases.
The two servers each have dual IP adaptors, and one adaptor in each server is used exclusively for inter-server communications. This has been operational and working well for years. A Connection document ensures successful communications between the Traveler server and the mail server, and 'trace' commands execute flawlessly.
However, after upgrading the Traveler server recently to 8.5.3UP2, we started to observe an issue quite regularly reported on the Traveler server console:
Error connecting to server MailServer/ABC: The server is not responding. The server may be down or you may be experiencing network problems. Contact your system administrator if this problem persists.
Funnily enough, Traveler seems to be working and mail is successfully delivered to users' mobile devices. Obviously, however, this is a concern. I also noted a strange (well, I hadn't seen it before) console message when Traveler was loaded...
Lotus Traveler: WARNING *system Multiple host addresses were found:
Lotus Traveler: WARNING *system 10.102.1.6
Lotus Traveler: WARNING *system 10.102.2.2
Lotus Traveler: WARNING *system Notes Traveler server will use 10.102.1.6 which may not be the correct address for your environment.
Lotus Traveler: WARNING *system Please configure NTS_HOST_IP_ADDR in notes.ini to specify the correct host address to use.
So, I edited the server's NOTES.INI file, and added a line to force communications on the inter-server network (TCPIP2). Thereafter when Traveler was initiated, the server reported the proper binding...
HTTP JVM: 469 [Traveler-InitConfig-1ef8] INFO - Multiple host addresses were found:
HTTP JVM: 469 [Traveler-InitConfig-1ef8] INFO - 10.102.1.6
HTTP JVM: 469 [Traveler-InitConfig-1ef8] INFO - 10.102.2.2 (Selected)
However, the connectivity issues continue to be reported regularly on the server console.
Have I missed something here?
Is there another setting that should be used to force communications with the mail server on a specific port?
Any assistance that you may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!
T.
